You should try to use MSCONFIG in Windows XP to disable some unnecessary programs that automatically load at startup. Disabling these programs will help to start your computer faster and more smoothly.
1. In Windows XP, click Start> Run

2. Type msconfig in the Open: "and press the Enter key on your keyboard or click the OK button.

3. This is the System Configuration Utility Microsoft. Click on the tab "Startup" (the tab on the right).

4. This takes you to a page with a list of "Startup Items". StartupItems are programs that will be loaded automatically each time you restart your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are simply a waste of memory.

Think you disable it, only programs and to recognize that at no time will be executed. When in doubt, leave it.
5. Click the OK button.
6. A message appears to tell the computer to restart before the changes take effect. Click "Yes" and their computersHe will restart automatically.

7. That's it! Your computer should run faster and smoother.
And you also need to update antivirus software and run a virus scan,
